History

Central Queensland Distributors (CQD) began life as a small humble toy store in Anderson Arcade in Gladstone in 1965.  The owners Lyn and Bob Rossiter applied a little TLC and the Arcade Toy Gift and Hobby Shop became a reality. In 1968 the business moved to Goondoon St and became Gladstone Toy and Gift, which in 1972 began wholesaling toys and gifts into stores in Queensland mining communities such as Emerald.

By 1988 the business was supplying to mining towns as far afield as Port Douglas, Hughenden, St George, Charleville and Cunnamulla, as well as the indigenous communities of Mornington Is and some of the Torres Strait Islands.

The potential to develop the business as a supplier to community stores became obvious by 1990, and after a fire in the Toy and Gift store in April 1994, it was decided to concentrate on communities and expand the business to include many Queensland community stores such as the (then) DFS stores and others as far as Borroloola and Groote Eylandt in NT.

In 1995 Hugh Bridge and Carol Holden took over the business. Hugh decided to buffer against any potential disasters by travelling further afield and expanding the business into NT, WA and SA. With new partners Andrew and Sue Goodward, CQD is embracing the 21st century and developing a website which will allow our customers to access our great range and prices at any time.
